LOC appeals for corporate bodies support

Accra, Oct. 09, GNA - Magnus Rex Danquah, Chief Operating Officer of the Local Organising Committee of the Ghana 2008 Africa Cup of Nations has appealed to corporate bodies to support ticket sales during next year's event.

He said the participation and interest of the corporate bodies will go a long way in ensuring that all the four venue stadiums are filled to capacity during the January 20 - February 10, 2008 Championships. Mr Danquah told the GNA Sports that corporate institutions must support the LOC's quest of having packed stadia during the 26th edition of the continent's showpiece soccer event by providing tickets for the disadvantaged in society.

He noted that since it was not all football fans who can afford tickets for the month-long fiesta, it behoves on corporate bodies to ensure such persons become part of the competition by buying tickets for them.

The LOC is expected to meet some institutions within the corporate world to fashion out modalities in that regard.

Mr Danquah also advised fans who will have the opportunity to visit any of the four stadiums of Accra, Kumasi, Sekondi and Tamale to take good care of facilities at the venues.

"Government has spent a lot of money on these projects, and we have to take good care of them."

Two new Stadia have been built at Essipong near Sekondi and Tamale, while the Ohene Djan- Accra and Baba Yara- Kumasi Sports Stadiums have been completely renovated for the event, which Ghana is hosting for the first time since 1978.

The draw for the competition has been fixed for October 19, at the Accra International Conference Centre with the opening ceremony slated for January 20, 2008.
