Senegal face Poland this afternoon Senegal face Poland this afternoon

Good afternoon and welcome to our live text commentary of the final game of the first round group fixtures of the 2018 World Cup.

Africa reps Senegal carry the hopes of an entire continent when they come up against Poland in the last game of group H which kicks off at 3pm GMT.

Both teams find themselves in a very tough group and with Japan stealing three vital points from Columbia, the two nations will be hoping to win their opener to get their tournament off on the right note.

Poland have not gone beyond the group stage in the World Cup since 1986, with their best finish being third in the 1974 and 1982 tournaments.

Senegal are making their second appearance on the World stage. The made history in 2002 as the second African nation to have reached the last 8 of the Mundial.

Coach Aliou Cisse who was an integral member of the historic 2002 squad has hopes on Liverpool forward Sadio Mane to lead his team out of the group.

He said: "Sadio Mane is a unique player and he cannot be compared to any other Senegal player, even the major ones we've had in the past."

Poland are being led by 29-year-old Bayern forward Lewandowski, a player who doesn’t struggle to find the back of the net. Wojciech Szczesny is expected to be in post with striker Milik expected to miss out due to injury.

Aliou Cisse has no fresh injury worries having replaced injured left back Saliou Ciss with Adama Mbengue.

This will be the first ever encounter between Poland and Senegal. Poland are unbeaten in their three games against African opposition at the World Cup.

Senegal have qualified for their second World Cup, after their inaugural participation in 2002 where they reached the quarter-finals.
