Ghana Football Association President Kwesi Nyantakyi has paid a warm tribute to the victims of the May 9 disaster at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The FA boss together with some football personalities in the country honored the over 127 souls that were lost during a League game between Ghana’s two most glamorous Clubs Accra Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko in 2001.

Several souls were perished after the Police failed to control the violent fans who threw object and missiles onto the pitch after the referee had allowed an Ishmael Addo late goal to stand.

The Police in an attempt to control the crowd threw back tie gas into the stands which saw the fans struggling for safety.

The situation however saw many of the supporters losing their lives as they struggled to get their way out from the stands.

Today however marked exactly 15 years when the tragic incidence happened.

The May 9th disaster goes down to become of the most catastrophic football disasters in Africa.
