Kwese Home Run honours veteran broadcaster Joe Lartey

Legendary Ghanaian football commentator and sports analyst Joe Lartey, has been honoured by Kwese Free Sports on their flagship show Kwesé Home Run.

The man widely regarded as a pioneer of sports commentary was given a surprise birthday treat with a beautiful cake as he celebrated his 90th birthday LIVE on television with millions of Ghanaians.

Joe Lartey became became a household name from the early 60s for his impeccable commentating qualities.

Ever heard of the saying "Over to you Joe Lartey"? Yes! That popular phrase was borne out of a strong commentating partnership between the erudite Joe Lartey and his compatriot Harry Thompson.

Whenever Harry Thompson was passing the commentary baton to Joe Lartey, that was the phrase he used; and it has become a trademark ever since.

The duo who worked with the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation dominated the airwaves and set a lofty standard for commentary in Ghana.

On the occasion of his 90th birthday, the newest TV station in Ghana, Kwese Free Sports celebrated the man who witnessed some of Ghana's greatest sporting achievements.

Thus he was given a befitting pampering on the Home Run set hosted by Yaw Ampofo Ankrah and Kokui Selormey.

The delightful hosts disclosed that Home Run would continue to celebrate pacesetters and achievers who have inspired and continue to inspire generations.

Home Run is Ghana's only daily Sports and Lifestyle show running between 8 and 9 pm on weekdays.
