Kweku Essien goes AWOL

Ghana youth international midfielder Kweku Essien has gone AWOL after being released his German second division side VFL Osnabruck.

The 22-year-old was loan from Ghanaian side Maamobi Midtjylland and was expected to have returned to the club since his exit from Osnabruck in January.

The Maamobi-based team was expecting Essien to return to the club to re-launch his career by joining top club on the local scene.

But he has so far failed to report despite several attempts to reach in Ghana and abroad, resulting in some consternation.

An official of Midtjylland told Ghanasoccernet: "Kweku has not been seen since he was released by the German second division side.

"This is very serious for us as we are concerned about his well being because we don?t know his whereabouts since he left Germany.

"We have made all attempts to reach him both here in Ghana and abroad but we seem to get no answers.

"For us it is very important that we chart a proper course for his future but this absence is really giving us sleepless nights because he is not the type of player who just disappears."

Essien managed just a single game in their campaign since joining Osnabruck as coach Claus-Dieter Wollitz was not impressed with his output.

Wollitz asked Essien's management to find him a new club in this month's transfer market since he is got no future at the club.

The midfielder moved to Germany in the 2007 summer transfer from division one side Maamobi Midjitland.

Essien, was voted the best player in the Ghanaian Onetouch Premier League last season on loan at King Faisal.
