Kweku Essien Is Our Player - Randy Abbey

THE current PLB Best Player of the Year, rasta-haired Kweku Essien finds himself in a quagmire after new revelations have emerged that he indeed put pen to paper on a three year deal with new Premiership entrants Kessben FC. In what is turning out to be a straight fight between Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Kessben FC for the midfielder's services, football fans continue to be in the dark over the true state of affairs after statements and counter-statements continue to emanate from both camps.

Mr. Randy Abbey, Executive Chairman of Kessben FC has stated in unequivocal terms that Kweku Essien signed the dotted lines for Kessben FC in a three year deal at an undisclosed amount which was witnessed by the CEO of Gamba All Blacks Football Club, Mr. George Afriyie on the 22nd of May, 2006. He went on to explain that money actually changed hands and that the cheques he issued out for the purchase of the player was from his own personal account at Zenith Bank. Mr. Abbey said even though the player's manager, Alhaji Bimbo wasn't present to witness the deal, an executive of Maamobi Midtjiland, the player's mother's club was present when the transaction took place. Randy therefore wondered why people want to make capital out of the situation and sow seeds of discord between the two parties. He stressed again that Kessben FC wasn't in any competition with any of the traditional teams in the country notably Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak. But he threw a note of caution that they will not be bullied and cowed into submission by any club to throw their plans out of gear.

But the player at the centre of the drama, Kweku Essien who was expected to leave for Frankfurt, Germany for trials has also disclosed to close confidantes that as far as he's concerned, he hasn't signed any contract with any team and doubts the authenticity of his signature on the said document. This fact was corroborated by an official of Kumasi Asante Kotoko over the weekend on a radio network in Kumasi leaving soccer fans confused as to who is being economical with the truth. In what might turn out to be one of the longest running transfer sagas in recent memory, 90 Minutes will bring you all the details as the story unravels to our cherished readers.
