Ex- Black Stars player, Willie Klutse has called on current national team coach, Kwesi Appiah to show his maturity in the game when the team play Sudan in a 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier at the Kumasi Sports Stadium next weekend in order to restore confidence in Ghanaians on his ability to handle the team.

Klutse, a member of the Black Stars that won the 1978 Africa Cup of Nations held in Ghana told GBC Sports that a first-class performance against the Nile Crocodiles will put the team right back on track after the disappointment of the 2013 tournament in South Africa.

Klutse said: “What happened in South Africa has put a lot of pressure on the coach from different angles, especially with a section of the public saying that the coach is not up to the task and others also saying that he needs time.

“And for me I think this is the right time for Coach Appiah and the Black Stars team to whip out an impressive result to silence their critics.”

“The Ghana Black Stars are a very difficult team to coach but with all the expectations ahead of the upcoming match, if they are able to win the game it will put a lot of problems to rest. They have to be mentally strong and be focused to deliver. If they are able to go through it against Sudan, I think they will succeed in their next matches,” Klutse added.

The Black Stars are currently sitting second in their group with 3 points, 3 points adrift of group leaders Zambia and must win against Sudan to stand a chance of making it out of the group for the final round of African qualifiers to Brazil 2014 World Cup.
