The President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, has reportedly been advised by some government officials not to run for a third term.

There have been numerous reports that the GFA President is pursuing a third term after Congress voted to amend the constitution to allow it, as it was previously restricted to two terms.

Kurt Okraku has consistently refused to give a definitive response on whether he would contest for the position again, stating that he will make a decision and announce it to the public when the time is due for the elections.

In light of this, a report by GTVSports+ has disclosed that some government officials have admonished Kurt Okraku not to contest again to allow others to continue handling the affairs of the nation’s football.

However, the report did not specify whether the GFA President has agreed to abide by the advice, with a decision expected from him as the election approaches.

Following the dwindling fortunes of Ghanaian football, including poor performances by the various national teams and local leagues, there have been calls for the Kurt Okraku-led GFA administration to resign or for the government to step in and dissolve the association, although this appears unlikely.

The Black Stars’ two losses in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers have also intensified pressure on the GFA, with critics blaming the association for what they describe as poor decisions in appointing coaches.
