Kumasi celebrates Ghana's victory

Kumasi, June 19, GNA - Residents in the Kumasi metropolis took to the streets on Saturday evening to celebrate the victory of Ghana's Black Stars after they had beaten Czech Republic 2-0 in the Group 'E' World Cup qualifying match played at Cologne in Germany on Saturday. The entire metropolis was electrified as jubilant fans sang patriotic songs amidst drumming and dancing in support of the Black Stars victory.

Many drivers tooted the horns of their cars as they plied the principal streets.

Mr A.K. Aluko, a football fan at Tafo, speaking to the GNA Sports, said the victory had broken the invincibility and supremacy of the Czech Republic and that had shown that the Black Stars would do well in the tournament.

He said Ghanaians were proud of the players for the skills they exhibited during the match and hoped that they would use similar tactics to face the United States of America (USA) in their next match. Mr Aluko appealed to the Black Stars not to underrate the USA team at the next stage of the tournament to but put in more efforts and determination to win the match.

Mr Kofi Abraham, another football fan, who was overwhelmed of Ghana's victory commended them for the good work done. He congratulated the Black Stars coach, Ratomir Dujkovic and his technical team for the yeoman's work and asked them to continue to adopt effective strategies to ensure victory.

Mr Abraham stated that the victory had proved to the whole world that Ghanaians were also capable of becoming the world champions and therefore advised the players not to rest on their oars, but to strive hard in the tournament.

He asked all Ghanaians to throw their weight behind the Black Stars as they face the USA on Thursday to enable then to become victorious. 19 June 06
