Kuffuor blasts Ghana tactics

Former Ghana defender Samuel Osei Kuffuor has expressed concern about the tactics the Black Stars used against Senegal in their Group C opener at the ongoing 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

According to him, Coach Avram Grant’s charges sat too deep in their own half, especially during the second half which was not the best.

Kuffuor lamented that the tactics the senior national team used, aided Senegal to carry the day with a shocking 2-1 win.

The ex-Bayern Munich of Germany stopper said Ghana started brilliantly but got deflated after just 15 minutes of play, allowing Senegal to take over.

“Ghana sat too deep in their own half for most parts of the game which to me was not the best of tactics.

“This approach to the game created a big problem for the Black Stars,” Kuffuor said on Supersport.

He explained that Coach Grant’s tactics gave Senegal too much room to operate and bombard the Black Stars with a series of attacks.

Kuffuor said it was not appropriate for the Black Stars to adopt such a strategy whilst playing at the highest level.

The ex-Ghana stopper expressed sadness about how Ghana succumbed to Senegal on Monday.

Kuffuor was of the view that the Black Stars did not deserve to lose the game “but their tactics led them down”.
