Ghanaian player Jo Kuffour who plays for divsion two side Brentford in England has won the GPG’s coveted Player of the Season award.
Jo finished top of the GPG “Man of the Match” table - a season-long tally of the players that GPGers have voted as their man of the match in each of our 51 games this year. Points are allocated to the players that finish first, second and third in the poll for each game, and totted up in the MOM table.
Jo was top dog thanks to solid scoring and consistent performances throughout the season, including six Man of the Match awards. Second place went to newcomer John Mousinho, whose four Man of the Match awards include his legendary stint between the sticks in the Gillingham home game. Third place went to the rapidly-improving Charlie Ide, who would possibly have been a contender for the top spot had the season lasted a few more games.
Few supporters would disagree that Jo’s goals and form were a rare twinkling diamond in a season of slurry and bilge.
Jo’s name is now added to an illustrious list of past winners of the award – most of whom, it may be darkly noted, left the club very shortly afterwards.
