Asante Kotoko coach Charles Akonnor says his team can only qualify out of the group if they are able to secure a point in any of their away matches in the ongoing CAF Confederation Cup.

The team has two away matches to play against Nkana FC on Sunday at the Nkana Sports Stadium in Kitwe, and against another Zambian side ZESCO United. Akonnor's side lost away to Al Hilal in their opening fixture in Omdurman.

The ex-Black Stars captain hopes to get a good results in one of his away games to cushion his team's chances of qualifying out of the group if they are able to win all their home games.

“Looking at the strength of the four teams in the group, winning only your home matches wouldn’t be enough to secure qualification, so you need to at least pick a point away from home, so let’s see what happens," Akonnor told the media during the team’s departure to Zambia at the Kotoka International Airport.

Akonnor has set his sight on securing a positive result against Nkana FC in order to enhance his chances of qualifying out of the group.

“It is a fact that if we want to get the next stage of the competition, then we need to pick a point at Nkana," he added.

Kotoko are levelled up on points with Nkana, ZESCO and Al Hilal in Group C.
