Kotoko target Champions League group stage

The chairman of the Asante Kotoko Africa Campaign Committee Alhaji Abu Lamini says the club’s short term target is to reach the group stage of the CAF Champions League.

The Ghana Premier League champions have set a long-term target of winning the 2014 CAF Champions League.

Kotoko begin their campaign against Liberian champions BYC on 9th February at the Baba Yara Stadium in the first qualifying round first leg tie.

“Our target, obviously, is to win the trophy. The cup has eluded Kotoko for too long and we have resolved to win it now. But, we first want to enter the money zone, then we take it up from there,” Lamini told reporters.

Kotoko were eliminated from last year’s competition at the penultimate qualifying round by Algerian side JSM Bejaia.

The two-time African champions last reached the money zone in 2006 where they finished third in Group A behind CS Sfaxien and Al Ahly.
