Kotoko suffer opening day defeats at 2014 Blue Stars/FIFA Youth Cup

Asante Kotoko’s youth team suffered successive defeats in the opening day fixtures of the Blue Stars/FIFA Youth Cup 2014 which climaxes on Thursday in Switzerland.

Kotoko were thrashed 3-0 by Portuguese side Benfica courtesy a brace from Hildeberto Pereira with Rochinha completing the heavy win over the Ghanaians in Zurich.

Back to back tournament winners FC Zurich also accounted for the young porcupine warriors by a lone goal later in the day to condemn the side to bottom of Group A.

Kotoko are scheduled to complete their group games on Thursday morning with fixtures against Spanish side Villarreal (Kick-off: 7: 15am) and hosts Blue Stars FC at 8:50am.

Depending on their placement after these games in Group A, the Karim Zito side will have the opportunity of a final game to determine their overall position in the 10-team competition later in the afternoon.

The game will precede the finals between winners of Groups A and B which has been scheduled to kick off at 2:40pm.

Barring any future changes, team Kotoko led by General Manager Samuel Opoku Nti is expected to return to Ghana on Friday night.
