Kotoko sign Ernest Sowah

Former Berekum Chelsea goalkeeper Ernest Sowah has signed a three-year deal with Asante Kotoko on Thursday as a free agent.

The 27-year-old cancelled his contract with Congolese side CS Don Bosco two months ago following unpaid salaries after joining from Chelsea in 2013 and has opted to join Kotoko despite interest from Medeama SC and South African side Ajax Cape Town.

He insists the decision is the best after several meetings with his counsel, noting that he will help Kotoko return to winning ways.

“I'm elated to join Kotoko,” Sowah told Goal.

“There were lots of clubs but I believe here will be the best place for my career looking at everything around that's why I signed three years.

“I'm here to help the club achieve their aims and objectives for next season and the seasons after. I'm prepared to work extra hard for a starting place and also to win laurels so that the fans will be happy,” he said.

Sowah also revealed that he is still eyeing a place in the Black Stars set-up after a long absence.

“I'm hoping that my performance with Kotoko will open doors for me to the Black Stars. I've been there before but lots of things didn't favour me. I know Avram Grant will definitely call me back in the near future to prove my worth.”

Sowah will compete for first-choice spot with Eric Ofori Antwi, Isaac Amoako and Felix Annan, who is expected to return to the club after his successful loan spell with WAFA where he kept 10 clean sheets.

Sowah made his debut for Ghana in an international friendly against China on August 15, 2012 and he was part of the Ghana team that played at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.
