‘Kotoko's elimination in Africa vindicates KK Sarpong’

Former Asante Kotoko International Relations Officer Kwame Baah-Nuakoh says the club’s inability to reach the Group stage of this year’s Champions League has vindicated former chief Dr. KK Sarpong.

Dr Sarpong was severely criticized and lampooned for Kotoko’s exit from the competition last year when they crashed out on the away goal rule to JSM Bejaia.

His failure was attributed to his unpopular transfer policy after selling key players without replacing them and allegations of him under-declaring transfer fees.

But according to Baah-Nuakoh, the club’s elimination by minnows Barrack Young Controllers this year has exonerated the former Tema Oil Refinery boss.

“Kotoko has been without the champions league for almost 32 years and for all that time Dr Sarpong was not there was he?,” he told GHANAsoccernet.com

“Dr Sarpong is no more there and there haven’t been any sales so far but has the situation changed so far? I don’t think so.

“In football there is rarely instant impact these days you have to work hard behind the scene for years before you finally arrive.

“Unfortunately there is a lot of football politics which does not allow for this foresight very unfortunate.”
