Kumasi Asante Kotoko forward, Abdul Fatawu Safiu has been adjudged as the best home-based player for the 2018/2019 season in review at this year’s edition of the Ghana Football Awards.

The Porcupine Warrior enjoyed a good season with the side especially during their campaign in the CAF Confederations cup.

Following the injury of striker Sogne Yacouba, Safiu stepped up and banged in most of the goals for the side that helped them to reach the group stage of the Confederations Cup.

He was also instrumental for the Kumasi based side when they recently went all the way to win the tier 1 title of the GFA Normalization Committee (NC) Special Competition that has handed them their ticket to feature in the next edition of the CAF Champions League.

At the award ceremony held at the Marriott Hotel in Accra today, Abdul Fatawu Safiu has been voted as the home-based player ahead of his teammate Felix Annan and Accra Hearts of Oak defender Mohammed Alhassan.

Following a successful season with Kotoko, the former Portland Timbers FC player is on the verge of joining Swedish side Helsingborg.
