Kotoko ready for WAFA outstanding game

It is another mid-week fixture for Kumasi Asante Kotoko. They travel to face second-placed WAFA SC on Wednesday in Sogakope and will be eyeing a rapid return to winning ways to pile pressure on league leaders Aduana Stars.

The Porcupine Warriors were held to a one-all stalemate by arch-rivals Accra Hearts of Oak on their comeback outstanding fixture two weeks ago.

They will be locking horns with WAFA, who haven’t been in good shape themselves after their ambition of winning the Ghana Premier League for the first time was dealt a big blow in a 2-0 defeat to relegation threatened side Ashanti Gold in Obuasi.

The Porcupine Warriors look good physically and mentally but on a good day the Sogakope lads can unleash the beast in them if they haven’t done their homework.

Considering what was seen at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium against Hearts of Oak, then they will be in for a difficult task.

One man who will be hoping to get the chance to man the post for coach Steve Polack’s side is goalkeeper Felix Annan. He thinks any form of victory will serve as a boost to their title chase.

“It is not an easy game playing against WAFA. It is always difficult but we will go there with the same mentality of winning every game and try to win some points.

“If you compare the previous weeks, the incident that happened, it was really terrible but we are trying to recover fully and hopefully we will be back to our possible best.”

A win for Kotoko will see them close in on Hearts of Oak with just a point but still maintain the fourth position.

WAFA have lost their last two away games and will be looking to pick up a win on home turf were they’re familiar with. Aduana top the league table with 44 points accrued so far.

Thus, taking all three points will see the Sogakope boys rise above the Dormaa-based side to become new league leaders.
