Kotoko plan to shock Hearts

It is officially a friendly but today´s 'Super 2' game between Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko is serious business as they clash twice in a week.

The two giants have the final opportunity to outdoor their new acquisitions and also assess their readiness for the 2011/12 Ghana Premier League season which is just about a fortnight away.

Hearts had a poor season last time round and it is redemption time. Kotoko officials have hinted that a blend of youth and experience must be expected. The old guard in Ahmed Toure, Daniel Nii Adjei, Michael Akuffo and Awal Mohammed should be around while and new signings Kofi Nti Boakye, Sako, Augustine Okrah, Amos Frimpong, Yahaya Mohammed, Baba Abdul Rahman, and Mumuni Mustapha should also be in the squad.

The Porcupine Warriors did not have their new head coach, Maxwell Konadu, for some time after a stint with the gold-winning Black Meteors at the All Africa Games in Mozambique.

Hearts, who often perform better against their opponents in their Kumasi, have been on the quiet side of transfer dealings. Berekum Arsenal's Kofi Agyare, striker Gabriel Armah from Deportivo and B.A. Stars' Attakora Gyimah form the core of their new base. As well as their tried and tested players in Douglas Nkrumah and Esme Mends should lead the Phobians.

Initial reports say Serbian coach Nebojsa Vucicevic would not have Mahatma Otoo and Uriah Asante for this first leg since they were also in southern Africa.

Last season Hearts returned from Kumasi as 1-0 first round winners, before Kotoko visisted away and won 2-0 in classic fashion.

Both teams had stayed out of the ongoing GHALCA Glo8 for varied reasons, but the two giants will know that pressure from fans will be incessant to use these two charity events to make clear statements of intent.

Kickoff is 3pm and ticket prices are as follows: 4-popular stand, 5-centre line, 10-vip wings, 15-vip main.
