Kotoko not considering slashing player salaries - Kennedy Boakye Ansah

Director of Communications for Asante Kotoko, Kennedy Boakye Ansah has shot down suggestions that clubs in the Ghana Premier League should consider slashing the salaries of players due to the coronavirus-induced suspension of the league.

The rapid spread of coronavirus pandemic has halted all sporting activities in the world indefinitely.

In Europe, most clubs have managed to agree with the players to take pay cuts to help the club pay, non-playing staff.

Asked if such a decision would help Ghana Premier League clubs, Boakye Ansah said people should stop using European solutions to tackle Africans problems since the situation on the grounds is not the same.

“I have always had the conviction that European solutions can’t be used to solve African problems. Apart from Kotoko and Hearts who pay their players considerably well, how much do the other clubs pay? he asked.

To him, the salaries of the local players are nothing good that you should even be talking about a pay cut in the first place.

“They pay peanuts and we are talking about pay cuts. We haven’t considered pay cuts” he added.
