Asante Kotoko has declared its status as a selling club by confirming it needs to sell players to sustain itself.
Reports suggests the club has earmarked eight of its first team players with most of them recruited six months ago for onward sale.
“The club will not stand in the way of any player once an offer is made and the value is right,” Executive chairman Dr. K.K Sarpong told Hot FM.
“Both the players and the club have responsibilities which needs to be financed and there is no other way to do so apart from selling especially in this part of the world,” he added.
However critics insist Kotoko which is supposed to be one of the biggest clubs on the African continent should not finance itself solely from selling their best players.
“The administrators should rather focus on exploring other ways to rake in revenue rather than sell our best players,” Nana Adu a die hard Kotoko fan told Ghanasoccernet.com.
“We need these players to conquer both Ghana and Africa and then when the success come, with proper marketing strategy, we will rake in enormous revenues equatable to the likes of the Ahly’s, Orlando Pirates’ and other financially astute clubs in Africa.
