Kotoko head coach Ebo Mends resigns

Kumasi, Nov. 1, GNA - The head coach of Kumasi Asante Kotoko F/C, Ebo Mends on Monday resigned from his job after what is seen as the outcome of the Club defeat by their arch rivals Accra Hearts of Oak in the ninth week Premier League match on Sunday. The resignation comes barely 24 hours after the painful 1-0 defeat of the Porcupine Warriors by Hearts at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

Mr Jarvis Peprah of the Public Relations Unit of Kotoko told GNA Sports that the coach's decision followed a meeting with the team's Board at the Club's Secretariat in Kumasi.

Mr Peprah said the Coach cited personal reasons and that the Board had accepted his decision.

Ebo Mends was on a two-year contract with the Club.

The Management has meanwhile appointed Opoku Nti, an ex-Kotoko football star as the caretaker coach.

Kotoko played a total of eight games under Coach Mends, winning four, drawing one and losing three.

He came under heavy criticism from the teeming supporters of the Club who accused him of incompetence after suffering defeats at the hands of city rivals King Faisal and Hearts.
