Asante Kotoko have dismissed reports that interim coach Prince Yaw Owusu has gone missing from camp following their heavy defeat to Medeama, describing the claims as false and misleading.
Speculation emerged after Owusu failed to report to training in the aftermath of Kotoko’s 4-0 loss, a result that effectively ended their hopes of securing a silverware this season.
The Porcupine Warriors now trail by 10 points in the Ghana Premier League title race with just five matches remaining, while their overall form continues to raise concerns among supporters.

Reports had suggested that Owusu feared for his safety after allegedly receiving threats in the wake of the humiliating defeat. However, the club has moved quickly to clarify the situation.
In an official statement signed by Communications Director Samuel Sarfo Duku, Kotoko insisted the coach’s absence had been duly communicated and approved.
“The club wishes to firmly debunk rumours suggesting that Interim Head Coach Prince Yaw Owusu has left the team’s camp without notice. These claims are untrue. Prince duly sought permission from management to attend to urgent family matters as he continues to mourn the passing of his beloved mother. He is expected to return to Kumasi this morning, and any further updates or decisions will be officially communicated in due course,” the statement read.
Owusu took charge on an interim basis following the mid-season dismissal of Karim Zito, but has struggled to turn the team’s fortunes around. Kotoko’s performances have remained inconsistent, and their title challenge has faded significantly in recent weeks.
With expectations high at the start of the campaign, the club now appears set to finish the season without a trophy, a situation likely to prompt further scrutiny and potential changes at the end of the season.
