Kotoko: Nath Asamoah failed to show commitment

Nathaniel Asamoah's much publicised move to Ghana Premier League giants Asante Kotoko failed to materialise, with the 26-year-old striker opting for Aduana Stars.

Kotoko management member, Alhaji Ali Maradona, attributes the botched move to lack of commitment from the player.

Asamoah returned to Ghana earlier this year after an unsuccessful spell with Raja Casablanca in Morocco and was heavily linked to the Kumasi-based club.

”Nathaniel Asamoah arrived at Kotoko's secretariat on transfer deadline day around 10am and left at 2:14 pm. We concluded talks and arrive at a decision with him because he was demanding $550 as monthly salary. Chairman Pee and Alhaji Abu Lamini were ready to take the responsibilities but we realised that the player was not committed to play for the club,” Maradona told FOX FM.

“While negotiations were ongoing at the secretariat, Asamoah was busy with his phone chatting. He was talking to the officials of Aduana Stars in our premises and eventually signed for them. Although, the supporters are not happy with the twist of events, I'm pleading with them to forget about the player and rally behind the current ones at the club when the second round of the season resumes," he added.

Asamoah was the second highest top scorer in the league last season with 18 goals, one goal behind eventual winner Kofi Owusu.
