Kotoko Fans Disrupt Training Session

Fans of Kumasi Asante Kotoko this morning disrupted the team’s training session at the Ridge Park in Kumasi in protest at the decision by club’s owner and patron, Otumfuo Osei Tutu to dissolve both the Board and Management last Saturday.

The fans, chanting no Herbert, no training managed to get the training session cancelled in the first public outburst to Saturday’s decision. The fans threatened to carry on with their protest until the Otumfuo re instates Herbert Mensah into management position at Kotoko.

The angry supporters have promised unceasing protests if Herbert is not named in the Interim Management Committee to be announced tomorrow. Such reaction was always expected given Herbert’s massive popularity with the Kotoko fans. The late Asantehene after gave him the top Kotoko job four years ago after violent protests demanding that he be made to lead Kotoko.

Luv FM’s Christopher Opoku who has been covering the running saga in the Porcupine Warriors for JOYFM says there are likely to be more protests in support of the ex CEO Herbert Mensah.

Though renowned for his innovativeness and what supporters say is pragmatic and visionary leadership, Herbert alienated several others with his brash and confrontational style. He constantly criticized leading football figures in Ghana and openly chastised sports ministers in his Asante Kotoko Express Column.

That newspaper itself could become a potential source of wrangling. The ousted board has recommended that ownership of the paper be transferred from Herbert Mensah as a person to Kumasi Asante Kotoko.
