Koforidua Sports Stadium's scoreboard inaugurated

Koforidua, Oct. 8, GNA - The New Juaben Municipal Chief Executive, Nana Kwesi Adjei-Boateng has appealed to corporate bodies and other private businesses in the Municipality to help develop the stands of the Koforidua Sports Stadium to protect spectators and make the stadium meet the required standards.

He said since sports can be used as a rallying point for national development if it is properly harnessed there is the need for the public to assist in diverse ways to compliment government's development agenda.

Nana Adjei-Boateng made the appeal at the inauguration of a 74 million cedi new scoreboard for the Koforidua Sports Stadium funded by Opanyin Ayeh Construction Limited of Koforidua.

He said there is therefore the need for the improvement of sports infrastructure in the country to properly harness sports for its development in the country. Nana Adjei-Boateng said it was regrettable that Koforidua was not chosen as one of the centres to host the organization of the Confederation of African Football Associations (CAF) 2008 finals which is to be hosted by Ghana.

He noted that the decision not to include the Municipality in the CAN 2008 might have been because of the absence of a residential team in the area participating in the Premier League.

Nana Adjei-Boateng therefore appealed to private companies, organizations and individuals in the Municipality to help nurture the initiating of a viable football team to participate in the Premier League.

Mr Charles Ayeh, the Chief Administrative Officer of National Sports Council on behalf of the Council presented a set of track suits and a certificate of honour to Mr Kofi Ayeh, Chief Executive Officer of Opanyin Ayeh Company Limited for sponsoring the construction of the new scoreboard for the Koforidua Sports Stadium.

As part of activities to mark the inauguration of the scoreboard, the Regional Police Service Football team beat the New Juaben Municipal Town and Country Planning soccer team by a lone goal to win the New Juaben Municipal 2005/ 2006 soccer season Inter Departmental League competition.
