Accra, July 21, GNA - Sensei Melvin Brown, Chairman of the Technical Committee of the Ghana Karate Association Committee has invited 23 members who were selected at the just ended National Karate tournament to report for training at the Sport Hall of the Accra Sports Stadium. According to Sensei Brown, the training is aimed at selecting the best 15 karate players to represent the nation at the Federation of African Karate Union Zone Three Championship slated for Benin next month.

Those invited are Jerry Agyiri Williams, Richard Botchway, Agbeko Tayvi Noah, Awa Jeano, Victor Ackon, Okine Ayi, Isaac Amponsah and Reuben Banful, Alex Danquah, Mahadi Mohammed, Frank Anim, John Ansah, Emmanuel Adjei.

The rest are Samuel Obeng, Morgan Yeboah, Kofi Kyei and Adama Anane, Eugene Saint-Omar, Ernest Agooji, Moro Ali, Abdul Karim, Victor Lartey and Isaac Eyison.

Sensei Brown also appealed for a sponsorship for the tournament adding that, "So far all the preparations towards the championship had come from the sole contributions of members of the Technical Committee. He called for support from government and other corporate bodies since the resources of the members was not enough to meet the requirements for a successful hosting of the tournament.

Meanwhile Sensei Brown has assured Ghanaians of his team winning a sizable number of medals at the African karate championship slated for Benin even with the little resources at their disposal.

The current rating of Ghana's medal ranking on the world chart is between 70 and 80, which he said was nothing to be proud about and therefore more efforts need to be done to improve on the situation of fetching more medals for the country. 21 July 04
