Black Stars winger Joseph Paintsil marked his return from injury with a goal in Los Angeles Galaxy's elimination from the CONCACAF Champions Cup.

Paintsil scored in the 3-2 loss to Mexican side Tigres in the continental championship.

The former Genk star reduced the deficit to one with a 40th-minute strike, but the hosts restored their two-goal lead in the second half and eventually won the tie.

Paintsil had not featured for LA Galaxy since February 2025, when he sustained a quadriceps injury that sidelined him for six to eight weeks.

He missed the Black Stars' doubleheader against Chad and Madagascar in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in March 2025.

He is expected to return to the national team in May when Ghana competes in the Unity Cup in London.

Paintsil will now turn his attention to LA Galaxy’s MLS game against Houston Dynamo on Sunday.
