Jordan impresses in Villa defeat

Jordan Ayew Jordan Ayew

Ghana striker Jordan Ayew impressed for English side Aston Villa even though they were defeated 2-0 by Chelsea in the English Premier League on Saturday.

The 23-year-old was substituted in the second-half of the match at the Stamford Bridge but created some anxious moments for the Blues before he was taken off.

Ayew then went close as he curled a free kick on to the roof of the net, before Rudy Gestede should have put Sherwood’s men in front, somehow lifting Ayew’s cross over the bar with an outstretched leg from close range.

Ayew had exposed that much when he collected possession down the opposite flank, the forward ambling easily away from the attentions of Fàbregas and César Azpilicueta before squaring into the penalty area where Rudy Gestede had eked out a yard of space in front of John Terry.

Yet the striker was stretching when he poked at the ball with the outside of his right foot, his effort looping over the bar, and Chelsea breathed again.

Chelsea returned to winning ways as Diego Costa profited from a defensive mix-up for the visitors as the Blues looked to bounce back from the 3-1 defeat to Southampton before the international break.

The unfortunate Alan Hutton then diverted the ball into his own net shortly after the break, and the visitors never really looked like getting back into the game.

The match featured two Ghanaians with Baba Rahman playing the entire duration of the game for Chelsea.
