Black Stars defender Jonathan Mensah believes the decision by the Confederations of Africa Football (CAF) to move the AFCON from January to June is a great news for African players who ply their trade abroad.

The change was made last week at a CAF symposium in Morocco and will take effect from June 2019 as Cameroon host the tournament.

The Columbus Crew defender expatiated that, African players find it difficult to break into their various teams after turning up for the AFCON in January hence the decision to move the tournament to June will help.

"It is great news because, most often when you come to play the AFCON, you return to your club and notice you lost your place to another player due to your absence."

Mensah added that the increase in the number of teams from 16 to 24 to participate in the tournament will surely make it competitive. He spoke in Interview with Accra based Asempa FM
