Ghana defender Jonas Adjetey has suffered relegation from the German Bundesliga after his VfL Wolfsburg side lost 2-1 on aggregate to SC Paderborn 07 in the promotion/relegation playoff.
After a goalless first leg, the return fixture finished 1-1 in regulation time before Lauri Curda struck in the 99th minute of extra time to seal the victory for Paderborn and confirm Wolfsburg’s drop from the top flight.
Adjetey was an unused substitute in both playoff matches, capping a difficult spell for the 22 year old since joining Wolfsburg from FC Basel in January on a four-year contract.
The Ghanaian defender managed just four Bundesliga appearances during the second half of the season.
The former Basel centre-back also endured a challenging outing with the Ghana national football team in recent international friendlies against Austria and Germany, where his performances came under scrutiny.
