Ghana defender John Mensah has suffered a recurrence of the calf injury that is threatening to wreck his Sunderland career.

Mensah picked up the injury in training this week and has been ruled out as a result has been ruled out for the trip to Fulham.

“John Mensah hurt his calf in training and I can't see him being. It’s a concern. It’s a huge concern,” he said.

Mensah recently returned from a 6-month injury lay-off against Arsenal but was back on the bench against Wigan before the latest injury.

With his deal only a loan one, the spate of injuries could damage his chances of tying down the 2-year option that Sunderland have on him.
