Three Ghanaian athletes have secured qualification for the semi-final of the men’s 100m race at the 2026 African Senior Athletics Championships being held at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium on May 12, 2026.
In heat two, sprinter Edwin Gadayi showed incredible speed and was among the leaders at the beginning, but he was overpowered during the course of the race.
The Ghanaian had to settle for third place, which secured him a spot in the semi-final.
His compatriot Joseph Paul Amoah also competed in Heat 4 with a blistering pace, but it was not enough to beat the Botswana athlete.
Joe Paul finished second and also qualified for the semi-final, adding to Ghana’s slots in the event.
Ghana’s fastest man, Abdul Rasheed Saminu, did not disappoint on the day as he also placed second, narrowly losing to his Nigerian counterpart.
This means Ghana has three athletes competing in the men’s 100m semi-final, which boosts the chances of the host nation to secure a medal.
It is worth noting that the 2026 African Athletics Championships will span from May 12 to 17, 2026, at the UG Sports Stadium, as Ghana hosts the competition for the first time.
