Former coach of Ebusua Dwarfs, J.E Sarpong has urged the Ghana Football Association to hire James Akwesi Appiah as the next Black Stars coach.

Last week, a six-member committee was constituted to help find a suitable replacement for Avram Grant, who departed the role following the expiration of his contract.

And on Wednesday, FootballGhana.com revealed that Akwesi Appiah, who now trains Al Khatoum in the Sudanese top-flight league has submitted his application for the vacant coaching role.

However, according to the outspoken J. E Sarpong, the former Ghana captain has a remarkable ‘track-record’ which makes him the right candidate for the vacant position.

” Ghanaians would want to see the coming back of Akwesi Appiah but personally I think his comeback would be ‘a positive one and victory’ for him,” he told Abusua FM.

”I would have wished Akwesi Appiah is appointed as Ghana’s next coach because he did well in my opinion when he was handed the opportunity for the very first time in 2012”.

‘’I can say for a fact that some of the media had hand in AKwesi Appiah’s exit because they chastised him continuously with some suggesting he was too soft for the job forgetting that he was our own and needed massive support from us but trust me Appiah did a wonderful job as the Black Stars Coach’’.

”Apart from the late C.K Gyamfi and the likes who won the four African titles no foreign coach has been able to win any African trophy for us so why doing we keep wasting our time on such coaches, no white man can give us glory if you ask me”.

” Personally, from where I sit now I think Akweesi Appiah should be giving the job because he has built his capacity to the world-class level and for someone to qualify you to the world cup means that he has the technical knowledge to do it again”.

” For me I disagree with people who say Appiah didn’t do anything extraordinary as the Black Stars coach because even Jesus Christ was crucified but at the end it was this same Jesus Christ came to save us from our sins”.

”Akwesi was gradually building the Black Stars team but got sacked under some controversial circumstances and Avram Grant came to enjoy his work. What exactly did Grant do, he only brought in two players who were not even needed in the team but we had Appiah who was extending invitations to local players because he had the opportunity to play for the Black Stars from the local team perspective”.
