An Ivorian footballer has been taken into police custody in Romania following an alleged hit-and-run incident that left a 68-year-old woman in critical condition.
According to Romanian authorities, Abdul Kader Keïta was identified as the driver involved in an early Tuesday morning, March 3, 2026, collision that occurred around 5:30 am.
Reports indicate that the elderly woman was struck and allegedly left without immediate assistance at the scene.
Local media claim the incident happened shortly after Keïta had reportedly left a mosque.

Instead of remaining at the scene, he is said to have returned home before later attending his club’s training session as scheduled.
Surveillance footage from the area reportedly helped investigators trace the vehicle involved.
Approximately 24 hours after the incident, police arrested the player and placed him in custody as investigations continue.
The victim was rushed to hospital and is currently in intensive care, with medical personnel describing her condition as critical.
Keïta’s club, FC Rapid București, are reportedly aware of the situation and would refrain from commenting until the legal process runs its course.
