Its history un-end for Asamoah

Cologne, June 18, GNA - Ghana's youngster Asamoah Gyan made history on Saturday as scorer of the tournament fastest goal with his 70 seconds strike that assisted the West Africans to win their second Group E game over highly rated Czech Republic.

The goal, scored from a Stephen Appiah creation also passes as the fastest by any African country in the history of the competition. Gyan who plies his trade with Italian Serie B side Modena, is in contention for the Gillette/FIFA Young Players Award with players like Portuguese Christiano Ronaldo, Argentine Lionel Messi, Englishman Wayne Rooney.

Gyan, 22, missed a penalty from the spot when referee Hovacio Elizondo awarded the Ghanaians the advantage after Mathew Amoah was brought flying by Tomas Ujifalusi in the game the Ghanaians won 2-0 to become the first debutants to win in the competition so far. The former Liberty star hit the upright when he stepped out to effect the kick though he had completely swerved brave heart Peter Cech in post for the Czechs, who are ranked second in the world by FIFA.

The player had earlier picked a yellow card for prematurely kicking the ball while the referee was busily exiting Ujfalusi for the tackle on Amoah.

Gyan who had started all two games played will miss the team's next game with the United States of America (USA) in an encounter, which the Stars would be chasing another win to ensure they progress to the knock out stage of the fiesta.
