The Iran national football team has responded strongly to remarks attributed to United States President Donald Trump regarding the country’s participation in the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
In a statement, the Iranian national team emphasized that the World Cup is a global football tournament organized by FIFA and not controlled by any single nation.
“The World Cup is a historic and international event, and its organizer is FIFA not any single country,” the statement read.
The team also highlighted its sporting achievements in securing a place at the tournament, noting that Iran qualified convincingly through a series of strong performances.
“The Iranian national team qualified for this event with authority and through consecutive victories, becoming one of the first teams to reach this great tournament,” the statement added.
Iran further insisted that its participation cannot be revoked by political opinions or external pressure.
“Certainly, no one can remove the Iranian national team from the World Cup,” the team said, adding that if any country should be questioned, it would be one that holds the title of host but lacks the capacity to guarantee the safety of participating teams.
