International Day of the Sports Journalist falls - July 2

Accra, June 24, GNA - Sports Journalists across the World will on Thursday, July 2, celebrate the International Day of the Sports Journalists. The day set aside by the Association of International Press for Sports (AIPS) was to highlight the role of the sports journalists in the world.

The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), an affiliate of the AIPS and the mother body of sports journalists in Ghana in collaboration with the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) would commemorate the day with a lecture at the Media Center of the Ohene Djan Stadium, Accra. The lecture on the topics, "The State of Sports Journalism in Ghana today" and the way forward and "Pitfalls in Sports Journalism" and how to avoid them will be handled by Hon. Joe Aggrey - a veteran sports journalist with international repute and Mr Yaw Boadu Ayeboafo - General Manager in Charge of Newspapers, Graphic Group Communications Limited. A statement by Ackah Anthony, President of SWAG said the state of the journalism in Ghana and the way forward will be handled by renowned sports journalists.

Mr Aggrey - a one time president of SWAG and one of the finest sports journalists ever produced in Ghana is expected to make an analysis of the current trend in sports journalism as well as discuss of the profession.

Mr Ayeboafo on the hand also comes on board with a wealth of experience in journalism having been one of the longest serving professionals on the field.

Mr Ayeboafo who doubles as a lawyer will therefore take a critical look at the profession from the legal perspective. He will take a look at some of the pitfalls in journalism and suggest ways of dealing with them. The statement therefore calls on sports journalists across the country to be part of the celebration. The lecture starts 9:00am with an opening ceremony preceding the main lecture.
