The Chairman of the Division One League (DOL) board, Owoahene Acheampong has debunked and clarified claims from Berekum Arsenal requesting points be taken off Real Tamale United (RTU) for picking maximum points in games against demoted premier league new entrants, Techiman city during the 2014/15 GN Bank DOL season.

The Ethics committee of the Ghana Football Association on Wednesday published the ruling on a bribery allegation levelled against Techiman city by Wa Africa United. The pair according to the allegation played a match of convenience in match week 22 after money had exchanged hands.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Wa Africa United, Nana Gyamerah wrote to the FA alleging to have received an amount of Ghc2000 (Two thousand Ghana Cedis) from Techiman City prior to the game to play a fixed game but President of Techiman City, Charles Kwadwo Kumi has denied the allegations.

Berekum Arsenal general secretary, Douglas Effah has jumped to the defense of his club requesting to be promoted to the premier league in place of demoted, Techiman city. The Berekum based club believe points have to be deducted off second place, Real Tamale United who annexed maximum points off Techiman city in their encounters during the 2014/15 DOL season.

But this claims has angered Owoahene who has asked all the teams to be patient as the DOL board clarifies the position of all the clubs registered as DOL clubs and that includes both RTU and Arsenal.

In an interview with Kumasi based Boss fm, the board chairman said, “Who claims they have qualified, Techiman city played all the 30-games in the 2014/15 season so there is no way points can be deducted. As the law states if a team plays all the scheduled matches the points accumulated can’t be deducted simply because they have demoted (in this case Techiman City).”

“Techiman city played all the teams in Zone 3 however if Techiman city had played just 18-matches with 12-games to play then teams would have legitimate concerns request point deductions. As at now the ruling is simple have been demoted and no team will lose or gain points off them,” he added.
