IPMC Commits to Sponsoring Hockey

The computer assembly and retailing giants in Ghana, Intercom Programming & Manufacturing Company Limited (IPMC) have committed to partnering the Ghana Hockey Association (GHA) by sponsoring the Greater Accra Hockey Association League for the next 2 years. This was disclosed by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of firm Mr. Amardeep Singh Hari during the championship crowning ceremony of the IPMC Hockey League winners in Accra on Saturday.

In a short message he delivered during the ceremony, Mr. Amardeep expressed satisfaction with the organization of the league competition and the exposure the company enjoyed during the past year. He assured the GHA and the GAHA that his company loved the sport and were committed to seeing it develop further. He encouraged players and officials to give off their best at all times and to strive for excellence to showcase the sport as one that is highly competitive and rewarding to play.

IPMC signed a GH¢10,000 (¢100 million) per season three-year renewable sponsorship deal with the GAHA in 2007 to sponsor the league competition for the initial 3 year period, with the option to extend based on the return on the investment the company realised during the period.

During the signing ceremony in 2007, Mr. Amardeep promised that his outfit would work towards extending the assistance to all the regions to help the sport rival football indicating that Takoradi and Kumasi where IPMC had offices would be the starting point for the outreach to the regions. Though this has not been realised yet, the GHA is confident that IPMC officers in these locations will meet with the heads of hockey to address their specific needs.

Information gathered from the secretariat of the GAHA indicates that IPMC have also committed to conducting a series of ICT training programmes for hockey players and the provision of an ICT facility including internet access to the GAHA at the Coordinating Secretariat of the GHA located on the premises of the National Hockey Pitch. This has been met partially with the supply of a computer and its accessories and the GAHA has expressed optimism that the internet access and the capacity building programmes will be undertaken during the year.
