Deputy skipper of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Eric Donkor has expressed his readiness to renew his contract with the club, stating that extending his contract will be a display of his innate love and commitment to the reigning FA Cup champions.

The defender’s future has been up in the air with several reports linking him with a move away from Kotoko but Donkor is willing to put pen to paper and extend his 5-year stay at the club.

The defender who prides himself as a staunch Kotoko fan disclosed to journalists on Monday that negotiations are underway and that an announcement will be made as soon as an agreement is reached.

“My heart is with Kotoko and we are still negotiating so anything that comes, everyone will know. Of course I’m a loyal fan of Kotoko so I will be very glad to renew my contract. My late dad loved the club with his heart and when I got the opportunity to play for Kotoko he was very happy. I know that even in his grave, he is happy that I’m still playing for this club. He will even want me to extend my stay at the club so yes, I’m ready to renew my contract”, he said.

In a related development, the Communications Director of Kotoko, Obed Acheampong has confirmed that the clubs has released five players of its first team players.

The list includes veteran goalkeeper Isaac Amoako, Kwame Boateng-who spent the second half of last season on loan at relegated Great Olympics.
The rest are defenders Evans Quao, Atta Kusi and striker Emmanuel Osei, who was loaned out to Bechem United last term.

''Coach Pollack requested for some players to beef up the squad ahead of the season but we are yet to acquire any of them for him. We should sign new players very soon,'' the club's Communication Director Obed Acheampong said.
