I want Champions league football - Dauda

Ashgold goalkeeper, Fatau Dauda is out of contract but claims he’ll relish playing in the continental competition with the Ghanaian champions.

The 30-year-old Dauda, says the lure of playing in the 2016 Caf Champions League influences his desire to extend his stay with the Obuasi-based side.

The Miners are Ghana’s sole representatives in the continental competition, having lifted the 2014-15 Ghana Premier League title.

The shot-stopper has been linked with a move back to South Africa after frustrating times with Orlando Pirates and Chippa United between 2013 and 2014

“I will be happy to stay with Ashanti Gold because we have Africa [Caf Champions League competition to partake in] and it would be a good platform,” Dauda told StarrFM.

“If we play as Berekum Chelsea did in reaching the group stage in 2012, most of our players would be bought. It’s a determination.

“I can say I will stay with Ashanti Gold and if we excel in the competition, something good can come my way.”

Dauda joined Pirates for the 2013-14 season but struggled to displace Senzo Meyiwa for the starting spot.

He then moved to Chippa United the following season but cancelled his contract after just two matches over financial disagreements.

He was linked to a Germany team last April but nothing has filtered out of the talks.

Dauda was Ghana’s No.1 goalkeeper at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2014 Fifa World Cup
