NDC and NPP members defect to CPP

Asesewa (E/R) - More than 200 members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), in the Upper Manya constituency, including the incumbent Member of Parliament, Mr Solomon Tetteh Terkper, have defected to the Convention Peoples' Party (CPP).

Forty-Seven members of the youth wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), have also joined the CPP. Announcing this at the inauguration of the constituency branch of CPP at Asesewa, at the weekend Mr Theophilus Narh, an assemblyman and spokesman for the NDC defectors accused the NDC of having failed the nation, especially the people of Krobo.

They have therefore decided to join the CPP, since it represents the wishes and aspirations of the people adding that it is the mother of all political parties in the country.

Mr Cletus Nachelle spokesman for NPP defectors noted that, most of the youth are unemployed and assured Ghanaians that when voted into power the CPP would reverse the trend.

Mr Terkper, who was introduced to the people as the CPP parliamentary candidate for the area, described the party as great and therefore asked the electorate to vote it into power in the December 7 elections.

He urged them to rally behind the CPP, which he said is the only party that could solve the socio-economic problems facing the country.

Mr Terkper asked the people in the area to ensure that they obtain the Photo Identification (ID),Cards to enable them exercise their franchise in the general election.

Nana Owusu Sekyere, Acting Eastern Regional Chairman of the party, expressed gratitude that the defectors have recognised the CPP as a dynamic party and advised them to intensify their membership drive to win more supporters for it.

He said it was only the CPP that could salvage the country from its present economic crises and appealed to the electorate to vote the party into power in the forth-coming election He said the doors of the CPP were opened to all genuine Nkrumahists and predicted a victory for the party in the elections.
