‘I’ll Play For Kotoko Free - Don Bortey

FORMER NATIONAL star Bernard Don Bortey has renewed his hankering to play for Kotoko with a promise to play for the Porcupine Warriors free of charge.

“I am ready to play for Kotoko without even collecting any contractual fee,” the former Accra Hearts of Oak talisman, now with Aduana Stars, disclosed on radio. Don Bortey’s past ghost, of rejecting Kotoko by opting for Hearts at the last minute, has been hunting and preventing him from realizing his desire to don the Kotoko jersey next season.

Fans of Kotoko have vehemently resisted any attempt by Don Bortey to switch camp from Dormaa to Kumasi and feature for Kotoko in the upcoming football season.

Don Bortey’s betrayal of Kotoko at the last minute about a decade ago is still fresh in the minds Kotoko fans so they have threatened management, asking them to seize all talks with the player. But sounding remorseful, Don Bortey urged the Kotoko fans to forgive his sinful past and give him another opportunity to serve Kotoko.

According to him, “I just need a chance to prove my worth for Kotoko before I hang my boots. I am not here for money so the fans should forgive and let me join the club.” He said he would not demand any money from Kotoko for now, stressing, “My commitment and contribution to the club first and then they could decide how much they would pay me.”

Don Bortey noted that he still has the willpower to produce splendid football skills to help Kotoko go places so the club should temper justice with mercy and allow him to serve the club which is so dear to his heart.
