Ghana Boxing legend, Azumah Nelson has disclosed training about 20 boxers since hanging up his gloves.

According to him, most of the boxers he has trained have divulged into different areas and have been successful in their endeavors which makes him proud.

Azumah Nelson, the only African boxer inducted into the World Boxing Council (WBC) Hall of Fame in an interview with Rev. Erskine on YLeaderboard Series on Y107.9 FM said, “I have trained about 20 boxers. Some of them couldn’t continue with their career but I am glad they are making it big in their respective areas.”

He also advised young boxers to be disciplined and humble as that will carry them forward in their career.

“To become a winner, you have to be disciplined and humble. To be disciplined you have to listen to your coach and the instructions given you. To defend the title for long you have to know the act in boxing. Boxing is an act, you just don’t go into the ring and be taking punches”, he added.

Azumah Nelson was a two-weight world champion, having held the WBC featherweight title from 1984 to 1987 and the WBC super-featherweight title twice between 1988 and 1997.

He also challenged once for the unified WBC and IBF lightweight titles titles in 1990.
