How will WAFA fare in their next five games?

The 2015/16 Ghana Premier League (GPL) kicked on February 20 with the West Africa Football Academy (WAFA) comprehensively beating Kumasi Asante Kotoko 2-0 at their Sogakope base.

To some, this was a shocking result as Kotoko had enjoyed a good pre-season campaign and have been tagged as favourites to reclaim the title they lost last season.

However, WAFA proved otherwise, and, on the day were deserving winners as they asked questions of the challenge of Kotoko in making good their favourites tag.

Questions can also be asked as to how WAFA will fare in their next five games, with the first being whether they can maintain the momentum they showed in beating Kotoko or whether it was just one of those occasions when small clubs give off their all when big teams visit their home.

WAFA’s next game is against Berekum Chelsea at the Golden City Park, and, that is not a venue the home side easily loses.

Observers will be on the look out as to how this game goes to see whether the Academy lads will suffer any hung-over effect from their victory over Kotoko.

They will return to their Sogakope base to play Sekondi Hasaacas and will be huge favourites to win unless the away side proves otherwise.

Last season, WAFA lost just one game at home and, with Hasaacas being poor travelers, one cannot rule out a win for the home side who are age long dominant forces in Ghana Football.

On match-day four, WAFA will trek to Dormaa to face the might of Aduana Stars, another side that rarely drops points at home.

They have served notice of challenging for the title this season, as WAFA will have a job on their hands in trying to deny them a win.

Liberty Professionals will visit Sogakope in match-day five and it could be an interesting spectacle as the two sides have a similar style of play.

WAFA’s sixth game of the season will be away to promoted Dreams FC at Dawu. It will be interesting to see the number of points they will amass in these upcoming games to measure their outlook for the rest of the campaign.
