Horseracing resumes on Saturday 26

The new race course at Borteyman, near Ashiaman, would be the centre of attraction, as top horses converge, to thrill horseracing fans, after the Christmas and New Year holidays.

The top horses, would be seeking to improve their rankings in the much anticipated New Year racing on the Accra Turf Club (ATC) calendar, which would be under the patronage of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who is the Life Patron of the ATC.

Mr Samuel Nii Armah Turkson, the Secretary to the Board of Stewards of the ATC, who disclosed this to the GNA Sports said, the ATC was optimistic of providing horseracing fans with exciting event on Saturday.

He said the Club in consultation with the Horse Owners Association, has scheduled the New Year racing programme, with the first races at division ‘4B’ and ‘4C’ covering a distance of 1,200 metres, which would see 12 top horses, competing.

The second races at division ‘3B’ and ‘4A’ with a distance of 1,000 metres and would have 11 horses taking part in the race and in the third race, which is described as the Novies division because of its local breed horses, would cover 5,000 metres at exactly 1500 hours.

The last races of division ‘2A’ and ‘2B’ would cover 1,200 metres at 1600 hours to close the event for the day.

Mr Turkson appealed to the Ministry of Youth and Sports to impress upon the contractor, Zakheem Construction Limited, to complete the race course project in time to enable horseracing fans enjoy the Sports of Kings.

Mr Mohammed Jara, the spokesperson for the horse owners also called on the Ministry to liaise with the Urban Roads Department to tar the road leading to the race course to enhance more patronage.
