Ho, (V/R) May 18, GNA - The Volta Regional Sports Development Officer, Mr Gabriel Missodey on Tuesday inaugurated the Ho Municipal Sports Council with a call on members to use sports to reduce social vices in the Municipality. Mr Missodey said the rate of armed robbery, prostitution and drug abuse would decline when most of the people especially the idle ones were engaged in sporting activities. He observed that sporting facilities in the Municipality have been under utilised and therefore called on the Council to develop a number of programmes to encourage the people to use the facilities. Mr Missodey asked the Council to encourage communities to engage in health and fitness walks to reduce the rate of ailments and other non-communicable diseases. Mr Isaac Kodobissah, Ho Municipal Chief Executive who is also Chairman of the eight-member Council, said the Council would identify lesser known sports and help in promoting and developing them in addition to the popular ones. He said the Council would engage communities in all its activities and called for support from all, especially the traditional authorities and workers to make the scheme succeed.
