Accra, Nov. 30, GNA - Herbert Addo, head coach of premiership side Aduana Stars, has said he is keen on securing the vacant job as coach of the Black Stars after he was named on Monday among five shortlisted candidates by the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
Coach Addo said in an interview with GNA Sports that he was confident of beating the four other contenders for the job because he had a firm idea of the players, the team and what it took to handle the national team "A". "I think I stand a chance of making it because my records are clear. It's unfortunate Ghanaians do not keep records, but if you check the records from 1971 through 1981 to date, you will have no doubts that I can do the job," he said.
According to the coach, his past experience and records give him the conviction that he is up to the task, adding that "it will be like a promotion for me".
Coach Addo is, however, of the view that the decision lies with the appointing authorities as he is only playing the "wait and see attitude". "I'm very patient and I believe they will hand me the job at the end of the day."
The coach, who guided newly promoted Aduana Stars to win the local premiership last season, said he had worked hard over the years and taking up the Black Stars job would be a crowning moment on his recent successes. Coach Addo also supervised the qualification of the local Black Stars to the second edition of the African Nations Championship fixed for Sudan early next year.
He is currently conducting a justifier for over 60 locally based players to select the best for the competition. The GFA announced five shortlisted coaches for the Stars' job on Monday.
The list comprises Addo, Ghanaian-born former France international Marcel Desaily, Humberto Coelho of Portugal, Goran Stevanovic of Serbia and Can Vanli of Germany.
