SUDANESE fans have called for the immediate resignation of the entire national executive committee for using a suspended player in the World Cup qualifier against Zambia, an act that could cost them three points.

And FIFA have referred the case in which Sudan used Saif Ali during their 2-0 win over Zambia to the world soccer governing body’s disciplinary committee.

A Sudanese soccer expert who spoke on condition of anonymity said in an interview from Khartoum yesterday that the Sudanese FA has let down the country.

“We know the Zambian FA will appeal to FIFA and it is not a secret that we will lose. The three points we got when we beat Zambia will go to Zambia. I do not think we will recover with four games remaining,” he said.

He described the decision to use Ali as silly.

“Why use a player who is suspended? We have so many players who can play for the national team,” he said.

Ali scored Sudan’s second goal in the match played on June 2 at Al Hilal Stadium in Khartoum.

Meanwhile, the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) says FIFA has forwarded the matter to the FIFA disciplinary committee.

“FIFA’s response to FAZ comes in the wake of the ended week’s correspondence between Football House and FIFA House,” FAZ communications manager Erick Mwanza said.

Mwanza said in Lusaka yesterday that FAZ requested FIFA to review the match between Sudan and Zambia with specific reference to Ali.

He urged the nation to be patient and not ‘count the chicks before they hatch’.

“Once again, once the FIFA process is completed and the outcome communicated to us, we shall inform the nation accordingly,” Mwanza said.

Ali was red-carded in the 0-3 loss to Zambia in the quarter-finals at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations in Bata, Equatorial Guinea.
